This policy explains what information ChiTransit (chitransit.us, "we", "us") collects when you use the site, why, and the choices you have. The site is published by ALSADIGITAL, 40, route de Mittelhausbergen, 67200 Strasbourg, France (about us). We do not sell your personal information and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.

Effective date: Oct 15, 2026.

Information we collect

You can use the whole site without an account. We do not ask for your name, email or phone number, except when you choose to email us.

  • Server logs. Like most websites, our server records technical data for each request: IP address, page requested, date and time, browser type and referring page. We use it to keep the site secure and working, and we keep it for about 14 days.
  • Trip and stop searches. The places, addresses and stations you type are sent to our server to compute results with our own trip planning engine. We do not link searches to your identity.
  • Location (optional). If you allow it in your browser, your device location is used to find nearby stations or Divvy docks, or to start a trip from where you are. It is sent to our server only to answer that request and is not stored.
  • Map display. When a map is shown, your browser loads map images from our map tile provider (map.a-proximite.com), which receives your IP address as part of the request.
  • Emails you send us. If you write to us, we keep your message and address to answer you and handle your request.

Cookies and local storage

We do not set advertising cookies. The site stores a few preferences in your browser's local storage (for example, whether you dismissed the "install the app" prompt) and may keep copies of pages and files in your browser for offline use (service worker cache). This data stays on your device and is not sent to us or to third parties. You can clear it in your browser settings.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics, provided by Google LLC, to measure how the site is used (pages viewed, device type, how visitors arrive). Google Analytics sets cookies such as _ga and receives technical data about your visit. We have not enabled advertising features or Google signals. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, or if you opt out below, Google Analytics is not loaded. You can also install Google's opt-out browser add-on.

How we use information

  • To provide trip results, schedules, alerts and other features you request.
  • To keep the site secure, prevent abuse and fix problems.
  • To answer your messages.
  • To comply with the law.

We do not sell personal information, we do not share it for targeted advertising, and we do not use it to make decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects about you.

Who we share it with

  • Hosting: Contabo GmbH hosts our server in its St. Louis, Missouri data center and processes data on our behalf.
  • Map tiles: the tile server named above receives the requests your browser makes to display maps.
  • Authorities: when required by law or to protect our rights and users.

Transit agencies and operators (CTA, Metra, Pace, NITA (formerly the RTA), Ventra, Lyft/Divvy and others) do not receive any data about you from us: our server downloads their public feeds without sending anything about our visitors.

Your Privacy Choices

Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information. We do not sell or share personal information, so there is nothing to opt out of today. If that ever changes, this section will let you opt out, and we will honor your choice before any sale or sharing begins.

Global Privacy Control (GPC): we treat a GPC signal from your browser as a valid request to opt out of the sale and sharing of your personal information, and of any optional tracking we may add later, such as analytics.

Your rights

Depending on where you live (for example, California under the CCPA as amended by the CPRA, or other US states with consumer privacy laws), you may have the right to know what personal information we collect, to access it, to correct it, to delete it, to opt out of its sale or sharing, and not to be discriminated against for using these rights. Visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland have rights under the GDPR, including access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection and portability, and may complain to a data protection authority (in France, the CNIL).

To make a request, email contact@alsadigital.fr with the subject "Privacy request". Because we do not hold accounts, we may ask for details (such as the date and approximate time of your visit and your IP address) to find the data. You may use an authorized agent. We will answer within 45 days (one month for GDPR requests) and will not charge you.

Children's privacy

The site is a general audience transit guide and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

International data transfers

Our publisher is based in France and our server is in the United States. Information you send us may therefore be processed in the United States and in the European Union. For visitors from the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, ALSADIGITAL is the data controller and relies on appropriate safeguards for these transfers.

Security and retention

The site is served over HTTPS. Server logs are kept for about 14 days; emails are kept as long as needed to handle your request. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect information.

Changes to this policy

We will post any change on this page with a new effective date. Significant changes, such as adding analytics or advertising, will be described here before they take effect.
