We want everyone, including people with disabilities, to be able to use ChiTransit. We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA. Looking for help riding CTA, Metra or Pace with a disability? See our accessible travel guide.
What we do
Text and interface colors meet WCAG AA contrast ratios; light accent colors are always used with dark text.
Every page can be used with a keyboard, with a visible focus indicator and a "Skip to main content" link.
Menus, collapsible sections and dialogs expose their state to screen readers.
'L' line, Metra line and bus route badges always show the line name as text: color is never the only way information is given.
Touch targets are at least 24 by 24 pixels, and most are 44 pixels.
Pages work when zoomed to 200% and on narrow phone screens.
We do not use accessibility overlay widgets.
We test new pages with automated checks and manual keyboard and screen reader review.
Known limitations
Interactive map: the map is visual. The same information (stations, lines, schedules, elevator status, Divvy stations) is available as text on station and line pages, on the elevator outages page and in the trip planner.
Live data: alerts, elevator status and arrival times (where available) come from transit agency feeds; alert text is shown as published and may contain abbreviations.
Third-party pages: links to operators' websites lead to content we do not control.
